Journey into Spirituality
Depart on a spiritual journey through biblical Jordan, on Prophets’ footsteps. This day, you will visit the Baptism Site, admire one of the best topographic representations of the Holy Land depicted into a mosaic map sheltered in St. George Church in Madaba & have a superb panoramic view over the Dead Sea & the Great Rift Valley from Mt. Nebo.
Baptism site [Bethany beyond the Jordan River], is located less than 50 km from Amman. The large loop in the Jordan River, opposite Jericho has long been identified as the spot where John the Baptist baptized Jesus Christ. It is called al Maghtas in Arabic. This site and surrounding area were designated by the Vatican as a Millennium 2000 pilgrimage site and have quickly become the focal point for spiritual travelers from all around the world.
From the visitors centers you’ll be transferred by minibus near the Jordan River where baptism spring & other significant remains of early Christian settlements have been discovered. From Baptism site, you’ll be transferred via picturesque Dead Sea – Amman highway to Madaba.
Also known as "The City of Mosaics", Madaba has been intermittently inhabited for nearly 3,500 years. The chief attraction in this city is a wonderfully vivid, sixth century Byzantine mosaic map showing Egypt, Jerusalem and the Holy Land, preserved in St. George Church.
After lunch, you will be transferred to Mt. Nebo. Mount Nebo, located 10 minutes drive from Madaba is the memorial of Moses and the presumed site of the prophet's death and burial place.
From a platform in front of the church built by the early Christians in 393 AD, you will enjoy a breathtaking view across the Jordan Valley & the Dead Sea. The church is also famous for having been visited by the pilgrim Ageria and where Jeremiah saved the Ark of the Covenant from Nebuchadnezzar in 588 – 587 BC and, for its wonderfully preserved mosaics.
